      A void in space is an area that has a “low cosmic mean density”. This basically means that there isn’t much space stuff there like galaxies or stars or planets. So there is pretty much just…space! There is a theory that voids occur and get bigger because the universe is expanding and this is due to a thing called dark energy.

      I would think a void is pretty much an approximation to a vacuum. Space is quite “uneven” – some parts have planets and black holes and some parts are quite empty.
