      What an interesting question!

So a lot depends on how bad the hearing/sight of the person is. If they have a little sight then what makes it easier for the person to watch someone doing sign language is if the person signing wears a top of a contrasting colour (for example someone with light skin would wear a dark top). Also the person who is deaf/blind can also feel the hands of the person doing sign language to feel the shapes they are making.

Another method is the deaf/blind person puts their finger on the chin of the person speaking and they feel the movement and vibrations from talking. They can also use and read braille which many blind people use.

How deaf and blind people learn to do all this I’m not entirely sure. Practice and persistence. It’s actually incredibly impressive and I have a lot of admiration for these people who have to deal with being both blind and deaf and it really makes you thankful for what we have!
