The favourite experiment that I’ve done was to make genetically-modified fruit flies that are part male and part female, and then look at how they behave and who they appear to like. We are interested in how brains are wired up to make flies behave in a sex-specific way. It turns out that in a fly it’s mainly to do with how you process smells.
