• Question: Do you think it is right for people to marry whoever they want

      Absolutely!

      As long as it is mutual (i.e. no one is being forced or coerced) and both people are of a legal age (i.e. in this country you have to be over 18) then they should definitely be able to marry whoever they want.

      Both parties must be reasonably able to give consent, but it can still be tricky to say it’s always right. Examples of what I think are tricky situations are when there are significant “power” differences, for example, if a parent wants to marry a child…

      I personally think you should be able to marry whoever you want to marry. I would always marry for love and would like to pick that person myself. However, I do know people who have had arranged marriages (where their parents pick who they are going to marry) who are very very happy! So I guess it’s down to the individual!
